Industries we serve across South Africa

Operational risk takes a different form in each sector. Nautilus begins every engagement by understanding how your business actually operates — then maps the specific threats that apply to it.

01

Logistics & transport

Risk assessment and advisory for logistics operations

Single-fleet operators through to national distribution networks

The primary risk exposures we assess and advise on for logistics and transport clients.

i

Diesel theft and fuel fraud — we assess your fuel monitoring controls, identify gaps and recommend appropriate systems and procedures to give your operation visibility over consumption.

ii

Driver behaviour and route compliance — we review your current tracking, alerting and training practices and advise on what additional controls are appropriate for your fleet size and risk profile.

iii

Hijacking and cargo loss — we conduct route-risk assessments and corridor analysis, and assist in developing documented incident-response protocols for your operations team.

iv

Insurance and underwriting support — a structured, documented risk programme gives your broker credible evidence to present to underwriters at renewal.

Our role is to assess your exposure and advise on appropriate controls — implementation decisions remain with you and your operations team.

02

Construction

Risk assessment and advisory for construction operations

Civil construction, building, infrastructure and plant hire

Construction sites carry significant inherent risk. We assess the exposure across your sites and advise on the controls most appropriate to your operation.

i

Plant and equipment theft — we assess your current asset visibility and recommend appropriate tracking and alerting measures for high-value plant and equipment.

ii

Site access management — we review visitor control, contractor onboarding and perimeter protocols, and advise on where the gaps in your current approach are greatest.

iii

Materials shrinkage — we assess your delivery reconciliation and stockpile monitoring practices and identify where cumulative losses are most likely occurring.

Our role is to identify where your exposure lies and advise on appropriate controls — not to make guarantees about outcomes.

03

Energy

Risk assessment and advisory for the energy sector

Generation, distribution, renewable energy, fuel and gas

Energy infrastructure carries significant exposure that is frequently underrepresented on balance sheets. Nautilus identifies these gaps, quantifies the risk and advises on appropriate mitigations.

i

Infrastructure protection — substation surveillance, pipeline monitoring and remote-asset visibility across distributed infrastructure.

Unaddressed infrastructure exposure carries real financial consequences. Our role is to help you understand the full picture and make informed decisions about your risk.

04

Agriculture

Risk assessment and advisory for agricultural operations

Commercial farms, agri-processing, livestock and agri-logistics

Agricultural risk requires a different approach to urban or industrial contexts. Nautilus has advised South African agricultural operations for thirty years and understands the practical realities of remote property risk.

i

Stock theft — livestock tracking, perimeter monitoring and community-network coordination. Recovery protocols are developed and documented in advance, not in response to an incident.

ii

Farm security and attack preparedness — assessment of homestead vulnerabilities, access roads and response routes, followed by structured crisis protocols. On-call response available by prior arrangement.

iii

Equipment and vehicle protection — tracking devices fitted to tractors, harvesters and vehicles.

iv

Remote property monitoring — live visibility of movement, water infrastructure, gate activity and fence-line status for owners who are not permanently on site.

Remote properties can be managed effectively — our role is to advise on the right systems and protocols for your specific situation.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Which industries does Nautilus serve?

Our primary sectors are logistics and transport, construction, energy and agriculture. However, our engagement is defined by the nature of the risk rather than the industry classification. If your business operates movable assets or remote facilities in South Africa and the exposure is not being formally managed, we are likely able to assist.

Is risk consulting only relevant for large businesses with extensive fleets?

No. Nautilus works with operators running 10 to 20 vehicles through to multi-site national businesses. Smaller operations frequently carry proportionally greater exposure — fewer redundancies, tighter margins and less capacity to absorb a significant loss. We structure each programme to match the scale and needs of the client.

Does Nautilus operate outside of Gauteng?

Yes. Nautilus is based in Gauteng and operates across all nine provinces — including KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and cross-border corridors. We conduct assessments wherever your operation is located. Travel costs are included in the project quote.

How soon after an assessment does mitigation begin?

Typically within the same engagement. Nautilus does not deliver a report and withdraw. While the formal assessment document is being finalised, immediate interventions — tracking configuration, route adjustments, access control changes — are implemented in parallel. Most clients observe measurable improvements within the first month.
